On Sunday evening, two men opened fire on a Prophet Muhammad cartoon contest in Garland, Texas. Police officers returned fire and killed the two men, with only one of the officers sustaining an injury.
The contest was organized by the American Freedom Defense Initiative, which has been classified by the Southern Poverty Law Center as an anti-Muslim group. None of the 200 attendees were injured.
"The Islamic jihadis are determined to suppress our freedom of speech violently," said AFDI's president Pamela Geller. "They struck in Paris and Copenhagen recently, and now in Texas."
