Even opponents of abortion say it may be hard for Georgia authorities to follow through with prosecuting a woman for murder because she took a pill to terminate her pregnancy.
Kenlissia Jones of Albany was jailed Tuesday in Dougherty County on charges of malice murder and possession of a dangerous drug. District Attorney Greg Edwards says he's reviewing the case and is unsure if he'll prosecute Jones. He said that "as of right now she's still charged."
Georgia has prohibited the prosecution of women for feticide or for performing illegal abortions in cases involving their own pregnancies.
Genevieve Wilson of the group Georgia Right to Life said she wonders if authorities charging Jones "may not have known what the laws really are."
Albany is about 180 miles south of Atlanta.
