Despite the fact that it's pretty much inarguable at this point that Christopher Columbus was a monster of historical proportions -- the debate is, at this point, how great of one he was, comparatively speaking -- there are many people who still vehemently defend him as a sort of sad proxy of their childhood or ideology:
