Trevor Noah unloads on lame CNN debate coverage: Forget Fox News, let's taunt Wolf Blitzer

"The weirdest thing about CNN's coverage ... is how they are hyping the candidates who aren't there"

If there's one thing The Daily Show is known for, it's poking fun at the media. That legacy has continued past Jon Stewart and into Trevor Noah's reign. Monday night, Noah delighted in a little taunting as CNN attempts to rev up excitement about a debate that may lack any actual excitement.

Instead of poking fun at candidates like Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders and the other white guys, Noah mocked the media's political correspondents who have been reduced to excited Bieber fans totes excited to watch "with popcorn, Milk Duds and my dog." OMG, you guys! Seriously.

"The weirdest thing about CNN’s coverage isn’t how they are hyping who is there … but how they are hyping the people who aren’t there," Noah said before comparing the debate to a reality show.

Clinton has been running for 20 years, but Noah says the dashing young challenger, Bernie Sanders, may just be the homecoming queen after all. "What's impressive about Bernie Sanders is he raised $26 million. Yeah. That's enough to give one dollar to every single Republican candidate."

Noah showed the hilarious CNN promo that flashed the faces of Clinton and Sanders going head-to-head and then randomly a few other dudes' names. "CNN! What was that? ... Any of these people could be the next President of the United States and you list them like the legally required terms and conditions of a used car ad?!"

But then it was time to hype the people that wouldn't be there, and CNN has got the podium waiting in the wings, even if Joe Biden isn't.

“CNN, such amateurs,” Noah said shaking his head in disappointment. "You can’t get Joe Biden with a podium waiting in the wings, you get Joe Biden with [chicken] wings waiting on a podium!" Noah then admitted that joke isn't actually all that funny, he just wanted some wings.

Biden hasn’t said if he’s running for president yet, but current candidates Clinton, Sanders, Martin O’Malley, Jim Webb and Lincoln Chafee are all headed to Vegas to take on CNN’s podiums in Las Vegas 8:30pm Eastern, Tuesday night.
