Social media outrage is growing after pictures hit Facebook of a white hunter posed with his rifle and the dead body of a majestic African elephant.
According to preliminary media reports, the hunter was a German national and the hunt took place in Zimbabwe.
The Telegraph reported that:
Mystery surrounded the identity of the elephant, which was estimated to have been between 40 and 60 years old, but had never been seen before in Zimbabwe’s southern Gonarezhou National Park.
But its tusks, which almost touch the ground in a photograph taken moments after its shooting, confirmed its exceptional nature, weighing a combined 120lb.
The chatter in hunting forums suggested this could have been the largest elephant killed in Africa in three decades.
