Now that Politico may have finally deflated Ben Carson’s inflation to the top of the Republican presidential field with its new report that the retired neurosurgeon admits to fabricating his claim that he was awarded admission to West Point, some right-wing Twitter users are scrambling to defend him from a librul media pile-on.
Of course, we now have the Carson truther brigade — conservatives who point to Carson’s memoir “Gifted Hands” as proof that he never explicitly claimed to have received an appointment to West Point:
Where did Ben Carson say/write that he applied to West Point? Not in piece. https://t.co/abnmix24LH

Can't find anywhere in Gifted Hands that Carson claims he applied to West Point, which Politico claims in lede pic.twitter.com/RbNAaiL0DT

If Gen. Westmoreland told you, age 18, to go to West Point free of charge, you would probably remember and describe it the way Carson did.

But most of the right-wing Twitter freakout turned into a giant exercise in deflection:
"Carson made up his West Point admission story!" -folks who believe Obama attended church 20 yrs & didn't hear pastor say "God Damn America"
— Razor (@hale_razor) November 6, 2015
If only Ben Carson had lied about that West Point scholarship in an email to Hillary Clinton, nobody would know about it.

Rush: Has the media ever gone through Obama's books to track down Obama's assertions?

Because he's not a Democrat. https://t.co/6B6sLE8vSA

Even when conceding that Carson’s lies may have rightfully caught up to him, right-wing Twitter still doubled down on the media bias trope:
.@redsteeze he wouldn't be having these problems with his autobiography if only he had Bill Ayers ghostwrite it.

The librul media is, of course, now racist:
A Fox News reporter was just left perplexed as to why a black conservative would even have any problems getting into West Point. Well, with his race and all …
