New York City's transgender residents can now use their bathroom of choice

Access to bathrooms is a fundamental human right, Mayor de Blasio said

New York City mayor Bill de Blasio just signed a bill that allows transgender people to access the bathrooms and locker rooms consistent with their gender identity, in all public facilities.

NYC is one of the first places to do so, and the ruling comes after South Dakota's republican governor vetoed a bill that would have prevented transgender students from using school restrooms and locker rooms.
