Of the five women the National Enquirer alleged Ted Cruz had affairs with, one was described as "'a hot babe who once worked' on one of his campaigns." Internet speculation has drawn a convoluted line to Amanda Carpenter, whose picture is attached to the Enquirer article, albeit blurred and barred. Of course, no credible info connects Carpenter and Cruz romantically, but the rumor is out there.
Carpenter, Cruz's one-time speechwriter, is now a frequent CNN contributor. As such, she appeared on the network shortly after the story broke Friday morning, apparently not expecting to have to address the rumors, which she called "tabloid trash."
Carpenter joined co-panelist Adriana Cohen — a Trump supporter — and host Kate Boldoun to discuss the ongoing Twitter feud between Trump and Cruz, regarding each other's wives.
Asked if she's ready for Trump to move on from said feud, Cohen replied affirmatively, adding, "Where we should move to is The National Enquirer story that has reported that Ted Cruz has allegedly had affairs with five mistresses."
Cohen then mentioned that Carpenter's name had been mentioned. A low blow, no doubt.
"I don't think that's moving on at all," Boldoun interrupted.
Cohen, nonetheless, continued, reiterating that Carpenter's name has been tossed around, asking if she'd "denounce this story ... or confirm it."
"Let me be very clear," a thoroughly pissed off Boldoun clarified. "It will come as no surprise to our viewers, CNN has no reporting on what you're talking about."
"What's out there is tabloid trash," Carpenter confirmed. "You should be ashamed for spreading this kind of smut. Trump supporters should be held to account for it."
"I will not be intimidated," she continued. "I will continue to make my thoughts known about Donald Trump. And I am not backing down."
