Governments worldwide are executing their citizens at the highest rate since 1989, report finds

The U.S. ranks in the top five for number of executions

Global executions are highest since 1989, based on a recent study by Amnesty International. Government punishments reached 1,634 in 2015 and actually expected to be higher because China's numbers are not revealed. Even though these numbers are staggering, 4 countries banned the death penalty in 2015 which means for the first time the majority of 102 countries in the world have abolished the death penalty.
