"Last Week Tonight" host John Oliver opened Sunday night's episode with a mini-feature on "Rome burning in man form," Donald Trump's Thursday meeting with Paul Ryan and other GOP top brass.

Paul Ryan, who had declined to endorse Trump even after he became the GOP's presumptive nominee, said after their meeting that he was "very encouraged by what I heard from Donald Trump."

Ryan doubled up on the surprises, adding that Trump has "a very good personality," and is, "a very warm and genuine person."

To this, Oliver rebutted, "The only way Trump could be described as warm is if you're feeling leftover tanning bed heat radiating from his skin."

Oliver said he wondered why Ryan was "acting so coy" about his meeting with Trump, as the GOP's funding and Trump's voter base are symbiotic to the Republicans' success in a general election.

"Trump and the Republican establishment are like a teenage Christian couple who've made an abstinence pledge," he continued. "They are going to have sex, it is just a matter of time, but they still need to make a big show of resisting it for anyone who might be paying attention."
