GOP nominee Donald Trump and his running mate, Gov. Mike Pence, held a town hall rally in Roanoke, Virginia, on Monday.
After a strictly scripted lead-in from his running mate, Trump spoke at length about DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz's resignation following the release of almost 20,000 leaked emails from seven high-ranking members of the committee.
"I always knew (Schultz) was highly overrated," Trump said, alleging Clinton distanced herself from the scandal in an act of "disloyalty" against Schultz, who "has been so much for Hillary Clinton."
"Hillary knew what was going on ... She knew it's a rigged system, that Bernie Sanders never had a chance," he continued. "Debbie was so loyal to Hillary, and Hillary threw her under a bus, and it didn't take her more than five minutes to make that decision."
Virginia being the home state of Tim Kaine, Hillary Clinton's newly announced running mate, Trump took the opportunity to trash the senator, who, he said, has "done a terrible job for Virgina."
Trump, appealing to the populists and independent voters, praised Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders' critique of neoliberal trade policies.
"Say what you want about Bernie Sanders," Trump said. "He got it on fair trade."
