WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama and congressional leaders have wrapped up their Oval Office meeting, and the president says the talks leave him "encouraged by some of the constructive work that's being done" to keep the government from running out of money.
Obama said after his meeting with the four top congressional leaders that they discussed ways to keep the government open and to provide more federal financing for dealing with the Zika situation.
Obama says he's hopeful that by the time Congress leaves to campaign for the November elections, there will be an agreement in place to take care of both issues.
Long-sought provisions to provide money to deal with Zika look likely to be added to a must-pass spending bill to fund the government through Dec. 9.
