WASHINGTON (AP) — The Obama administration is setting a goal to take in 110,000 refugees from around the world in the coming year.

That's according to a senior administration official who wasn't authorized to discuss the numbers before an official announcement and spoke on condition of anonymity.

The target is an increase of 25,000 from the previous year, when the U.S. goal was 85,000. It reflects continuing concern about the refugee crisis stemming from Syria's civil war and other conflicts.

Secretary of State John Kerry briefed lawmakers on the goal on Tuesday.

Obama plans to host a summit on refugee issues next week at the U.N. General Assembly gathering in New York.
