WATCH: Chelsea Handler on how Ivanka Trump could be a hero: "If my dad tried to run for office I would f**king stop him"

Comedian Chelsea Handler was a featured guest on HBO's "Real Time With Bill Maher" on Friday night, where she even got serious for a couple of moments, discussing taking the hallucinogenic drug ayahuasca with her sister -- and how prospective First Daughter Ivanka Trump could become "an American hero."

Along the way there was plenty of banter between Handler and Maher, to be sure. When Handler said she could imagine voting for a Republican someday -- but almost certainly would never do it -- Maher asked whether she'd ever had sex with a Republican. "I don't know," she responded. "I don't get their names."

Handler and Maher enthusiastically agreed that Donald Trump is not to be trusted because he's a non-drinker. "I mean, you don't have to abuse alcohol the way that I do," Handler quipped, "but I would appreciate people experimenting with drugs, hallucinogens, alcohol. Loosen up a bit, otherwise there's a control factor that I don't trust, and that's what creates a despot or somebody like a Donald Trump."

Handler recalled being unable to shake Ivanka Trump's hand at a public event, and imagined Ivanka's possible pathway to redemption. "If she were to come forward -- and I know this is fantasy -- after everything her father has said and done about women that has been recorded and proven time and time again," and speak out against the Trump campaign, "she would be an American hero."
