WATCH: Marion Cotillard reluctantly describes for Stephen Colbert her sex scenes with Brad Pitt in "Allied"

"Imagine you're with your wife in bed ... and then all those people are watching. ... Do you still find it sexy?"

Marion Cotillard guested on Stephen Colbert's "Late Show" on Wednesday to promote her latest movie, "Allied," co-starring Brad Pitt.

Colbert noted that Cotillard and Pitt had a number of sex scenes in the movie. (The two were rumored shortly to have had an affair while shooting, which tabloids connected to Pitt's divorce with Angelina Jolie.)

Asked if it's "ever erotic at all to shoot a sex scene," Cotillard told Colbert to "imagine you're with your wife in bed ... and then all those people are watching. ... Do you still find it sexy?"

"But it's a beautiful love scene," she later amended, referring to a scene set in a parked car in the middle of a sandstorm.

During a press conference at the New York premier, Cotillard shared details about the "awkward" nature of shooting sex scenes, but was elusive regarding any chemistry with Pitt.

"It’s an awkward situation," she said at the Wednesday screening. "We laughed because ... this is so weird. ... And then we go into this, and then I’m going on top of you, and then we are going to kiss."

Cotillard, who's pregnant with her second child with French actor Guillaume Canet, tried to put the issue to bed in a September Instagram post:

This is going to be my first and only reaction to the whirlwind news that broke 24 hours ago and that I was swept up into. I am not used to commenting on things like this nor taking them seriously but as this situation is spiraling and affecting people I love, I have to speak up. Firstly, many years ago, I met the man of my life, father of our son and of the baby we are expecting. He is my love, my best friend, the only one that I need. Secondly to those who have indicated that I am devastated, I am very well thank you. This crafted conversation isn't distressing. And to all the media and the haters who are quick to pass judgment, I sincerely wish you a swift recovery. Finally, I do very much wish that Angelina and Brad, both whom I deeply respect, will find peace in this very tumultuous moment. Marion
