On Friday, Washington is the place to be. Not because Donald Trump is being inaugurated, but because organizers from the D.C. Cannabis Coalition — which wants to legalize pot around the country — are holding a pro-marijuana protest, and giving away pot to hundreds of activists.
Not a joke: There is a stream of people coming to get free marijuana in Dupont. Organizers guess ~8,000 free joints. pic.twitter.com/m20g1sWhCD

The pot is being given away from a jail cell. Advocates say it makes a point about need for legalization. pic.twitter.com/Ue24EwRopY

Why are hundreds of people in line at DuPont Circle? "Free weed!" "Marijuana for all!" Whole block smells like, well, people smoking weed. pic.twitter.com/njGX7qSORm

Meanwhile, at the inauguration, people don’t seem as enthusiastic:
Rush hour, #InaugurationDay Washington DC. Plenty of seats on the Metro. pic.twitter.com/JJO3Nzy5QO

Is it usually this empty 2.5 hours before the program starts? In 2009 mall was already packed and it was 20 degrees out. #InaugurationDay pic.twitter.com/rK692YK1Ok

Truly epic non-crowds in downtown D.C. pic.twitter.com/p6K1fb1jOh

Riding #metro with @MikeWCNC since 4am. Lighter crowds than anticipated. No problems so far #Inauguration @wusa9 pic.twitter.com/0jvXAdQOmV

Transportation-wise, the story of this inauguration so far is the small crowds. Roads/rails/everywhere. #wmata @nbcwashington #NBC4DC pic.twitter.com/Ah7wjfezRC

this is what the crowd for Obama's 2009 inauguration looked like. (1.8 million.) what do you think Trump's will look like? pic.twitter.com/LKz8uypYAt
