HBO's hit series "Insecure" is back for season 2 and, by the looks of the trailer, the characters are in for a wild ride.
The trailer shows Issa Dee learning to navigate the awkward and downright embarrassing world of dating — all in an attempt to recover from her breakup with Lawrence (Jay Ellis), her ex-boyfriend. “I betrayed his trust, and I have to give him space to forgive me,” Issa tells her friends.
But of course, the nagging presence of ex-lover Daniel is inescapable. The trailer shows the pair reuniting in a club — much to the disdain of the show's fans.
While Issa is busy with her complicated relationship status, her friend Molly (Yvonne Orji) is battling in an entirely different sphere: the workplace. After learning her white male colleague Josh is paid more, she faces the difficult decision of confronting her bosses.
Season 2's trailer explores the issues black women face in all aspects of their lives — from their relationships to their careers. "I know as black women it can feel like there are lots of things stacked against us. We feel invisible at work. We feel the pressure to have the perfect relationship," says an unnamed character.
"We're picking up where we left off, " Issa Rae, the show's creator, co-writer, and star, told Entertainment Tonight. "We're leaving no stone unturned. If you have questions, they are gonna be answered [in the] first episode."
"I think there are things that haven't been explored that will be explored around season two," she continued. "The truth will be revealed."
Season two of HBO's "Insecure" will premiere on July 23.
