One person was killed and 20 people were injured after at least two suspected gunman opened fire at an all-night arts event in Trenton, New Jersey, early Sunday morning.

The mass shooting took place at about 3 a.m. ET at the "Art All Night Trenton 2018" festival at the Roebling Wire Works Building. One of the suspected shooters, a 33-year-old man, was killed by police and the other was arrested, according to Mercer County prosecutor Angelo Onofri.

Onofri said multiple individuals inside the venue opened fire during the event, and that there could be more suspects, USA Today reported.

Authorities said about 1,000 people attended the event, and that the shooting sparked a stampede. Among the injured, 16 people were treated for gunshot wounds – the youngest being a 13-year-old boy who is among three others that were placed in critical condition.

"He is in extremely critical condition." Onofri said, according to USA Today. "It absolutely could have been worse given the confined space and the number of shots that appear to have been fired."

Several firearms were recovered, and the scene scene was described as "very chaotic."

Angelo Nicolo, a Trenton resident who attended the event, said that "all hell broke loose" once the gunfire broke out.

"And, all of a sudden, my brother goes to me, 'You hear that gunfire?' . . . He said, 'No, that's gunfire.' Next thing you know, we turn around, and everybody's running down the street," Nicolo told WPVI. "All hell broke loose."

The shooting is just the latest mass display of gun violence to occur in recent weeks in America, as the nation continues to find itself in the midst of a gun crisis.

"My sympathy goes out to the victims and their families," Trenton Mayor Eric Jackson said during a press conference Sunday morning. "All shootings are a crisis. This is not just a random act of violence - this is a public health issue."
