White House aides this week needed to show President Donald Trump just how dangerous Hurricane Florence is — and they knew using mere words wouldn’t do the trick.

The Washington Post reports that White House officials have done their best to keep the president’s focus on Hurricane Florence as it barreled toward North Carolina, even as he seemed eager to tweet bogus claims about Democrats fabricating hurricane death toll numbers to make him look bad.

In particular, the Post reports that “officials have brought large, colored charts and graphs into the Oval Office to illustrate Florence’s dangerous path for Trump,” whom the Post describes as “a visual learner.”

Additionally, Trump took the big step of taking “a rare trip outside, to visit the staff of the National Security Council’s resilience office housed across the street in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building.”

Despite these efforts to keep the president focused, however, sources tell the Post that he is still bitter over reports that nearly 3,000 people in Puerto Rico died last year as a result of Hurricane Maria.

“‘I’m not to blame for this,’ one adviser recalled Trump saying in a private conversation about Maria,” the Post reports. “In such discussions, the president also has trashed the power company in Puerto Rico and San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz, who in the storm’s immediate aftermath publicly pleaded with Trump for a stronger response and has harshly criticized the president.”
