Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez were married this weekend in a breathtaking celebration set against the historic backdrop of Venice, Italy. The multi-day event, centered on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore, brought together a guest list packed with global stars — from Oprah Winfrey and Leonardo DiCaprio to the Kardashians, Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump, Bill Gates and European royalty.

Sánchez wore a custom Dolce & Gabbana gown featuring 180 delicate buttons and over 900 hours of hand-stitching. She later changed into two additional designer ensembles, including a sparkling Oscar de la Renta look adorned with thousands of crystals. Guests traveled by water taxis, private jets and even Bezos’s superyacht moored nearby.

While the wedding dazzled many, it also drew criticism from some local Venetians. Small but vocal protests took place near the event, with signs reading “No Space for Bezos,” reflecting concerns about the privatization of public spaces and the impact of high-profile tourism on the fragile city. Critics argued that hosting such a large-scale luxury event in a UNESCO World Heritage site underscored ongoing tensions between preservation and profit in Venice.

In response, the couple requested that guests forgo gifts in favor of charitable donations and personally contributed €2 million to lagoon conservation efforts and other cultural initiatives.

The event, reportedly costing upwards of $40 million, was as much a showcase of generosity as it was glamour. Blending luxury with philanthropy, the wedding reflected both the couple’s personal style and a growing awareness of how high-profile events can impact their surroundings.
