Before she even said a word, actress Meg Stalter demanded a ceasefire in Gaza at the Emmys on Sunday.
The “Hacks” actress strolled the red carpet carrying a black purse with the words “CEASE FIRE!” scrawled on it. Outside of the purse, she wore a plain outfit: a white Hanes t-shirt and Levi’s blue jeans. When asked about her decision to call for a ceasefire, Stalter said she needed to utilize the platform provided by the big night.
“It’s… important to stick up for people and for peace [to] ask for an end to war,” she told Variety. “We have to use our platforms. What’s the point of being at these big events if you’re not going to use your privilege?”

Stalter wasn’t the only “Hacks” star to use their moment to talk about the war in Gaza. Hannah Einbinder ran over a 45-second limit while accepting her outstanding supporting actress Emmy to say, “Go Birds, f**k ICE and free Palestine.” Notably, she was wearing a red Artists4Ceasefire pin.

“Here I am today denouncing the genocide in Gaza,” he said. “Free Palestine!”
