Democrats in the House of Representatives have just unveiled diverging plans for ending the war in Iraq.
The proposal from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi: Withdraw U.S. combat troops from Iraq by the fall of 2008. The proposal from Rep. Barbara Lee and other liberal House Democrats: Force the withdrawal of all U.S troops from Iraq by the end of 2007 by requiring that funding appropriated for the war be used only to pull U.S. troops and contractors out of Iraq and to protect them while doing so.
Rep. David Obey says Pelosi's plan will bring an "orderly and responsible" close to the war. Rep. Lee says her plan reflects "where the majority of Americans are with regard to Iraq."
Senate Democrats are meeting today about a withdrawal plan of their own.
