The Republican party hasn't always been so cruel when it comes to undocumented immigrants living in the United States. Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush actually used the words "sensitivity," "understanding," and "open borders" when talking about immigration during a GOP debate in 1980. Their compassion is shocking when compared to the hateful rhetoric of the party today.
