WATCH: Don’t know much about Mike Pence? Let Seth Meyers help you out

"Trump treats Pence like someone taking their kid to a grown-up party for the first time," Meyers said

“Late Night” host Seth Meyers on Monday took a “Closer Look” at Indiana Governor Mike Pence, GOP nominee Donald Trump’s vice presidential running mate, “who looks like the teacher who volunteers to supervise detention.”

“Pence may not be well-known, but his anonymity and placid demeanor belie his history as a hardline conservative, and that’s exactly why Trump chose him,” Meyers explained. “Pence has been among the most conservative politicians in this country for years.”

The segment was less a look at Pence himself than a dissection of his joint interview with Trump for “60 Minutes” on Sunday, during which Trump repeatedly talked over his running mate.

“At one point Trump even gave Pence permission to answer a question,” Meyers said. “Trump treats Pence like someone taking their kid to a grown-up party for the first time — ‘Go ahead, you can answer. Show them all your big-boy words.'”
