We've previously covered Rick Perry's wrangling with God over the weather -- specifically his formal call to Texans earlier this year to pray for rain.

But it seems that the governor's weather-related experience with God began well before 2011.

Yesterday, speaking at Jerry Falwell's Liberty University, Perry said, "My faith journey is not the story of someone who turned to God because I wanted to. It was because I had nowhere else to turn."

The folks at Right Wing Watch took the opportunity of Perry's Liberty speech to revisit a remarkable but little-remembered interview Perry gave to Trinity Broadcasting Network last year.

Perry said then that "all through [my] life there have been these supernatural events." He spoke in particular of an incident in 1978 when it rained 30 inches in his hometown following a drought, an episode he took as a sign that he should continue farming rather than becoming a commercial pilot.

Here is the video of Perry's remarks:

UPDATE: Edited to reflect the fact that the video is from Trinity Broadcasting, not Perry's appearance at Liberty yesterday.
