After receiving my Nigerian Global Warming spam e-mail yesterday, I wrote back to the e-mail address provided expressing interest in learning more about the surprisingly lucrative opportunity to do my part to mitigate climate change. Mr. "Zeeshan Ashraf" responded almost instantly.

Dear Andrew,

Thank you for your decision to participate in Our World Campaign against Global Warming.

This campaign is partly sponsored by the (Various Foundations) and is designed to inform the world on the dangers the Earth is being exposed to as a result of global warming as well as to present solutions and educate the world on how our daily activities can positively affect this grave situation.

The idea behind this program is to engage the services of individuals and corporate bodies to organize local campaigns, seminars and forums in their immediate neighborhoods and communities; educating everyone on this Global Situation.

We shall present the framework for this activity by providing necessary guidance and orientation for partners willing to participate as facilitators in this campaign. A program plan has been drawn to achieve this.

Partners shall be provided with funds to meet the financial obligation this program shall demand. A fee of $250,000.00 shall be paid to individual partners and $500,000.00 for corporate partners.

To partner with us and participate in this campaign, kindly provide the following basic information:

First Name:

Last Name:

Middle Name (if any):

Sex:

Age:

Occupation:

Residential Address:

Mailing Address (if different from above):

Telephone Number:

These information are subject to verification after which you shall be accredited as a Partner with the World Foundation against Global Warming. All information received are kept in confidence and are not accessible for usage outside the Our World Foundation; Campaign against Global Warming.

We look forward to working with you. Do get back to me as early as possible.

Faithfully,

Zeeshan Ashraf

Our World Foundation

Campaign against Global Warming

I find it a bit distressing that the original offer of $610,000 for Individual and $950,000 for Corporate involvement have been knocked down to a paltry $250,000 and $500,000. Talk about your bait and switch! Now I'm not at all sure that I want to pursue this any further.

But heck, for a cause as important as preserving life as we know it on the planet Earth, it's still a pretty good deal. Onward!
