Happy new year

While some of you are drowning your post-election depression in egg nog, some busy little elves are out there planning inauguration protests:

"At least three groups of anti-Bush protesters are mobilizing around Inauguration Day, Jan. 20, when the theme of the $40 million official ceremony is 'Celebrating Freedom, Honoring Service.' For some protesters, though, the unifying theme is, 'Bush is illegitimate and corrupt,' organizer Shahid Buttar said at a news conference."

"Buttar said hundreds of grass-roots organizations are planning counter-inaugural demonstrations, including unspecified acts of civil disobedience. David Lytel, who founded ReDefeatBush.com, a federal political action committee, said his group plans to operate several 'stages' around Washington on Inauguration Day, including one at the Jefferson Memorial featuring an actor dressed as Thomas Jefferson. There will also be a counter-inaugural ball at a popular nightclub."
