Daily Download: "Be Careful What You Wish For," Gabby La La

Novelty music from a sitar-toting Les Claypool protege.

Having heard just this song, it's a little hard to know what to make of Gabby La La, a protégé of Primus leader Les Claypool who plays ukelele, accordion, toy piano and theremin (all the cute instruments), has played with Macy Gray and Snoop Dogg, and, claims her bio, studied sitar with the great Ali Akbar Khan -- which is decidedly odd, as I was under the impression that Ali Akbar Khan played the sarod (any help clearing that up would be appreciated). "Be Careful What You Wish For" is cartoonish novelty music, cute and squeaky, catchy and a bit obnoxious. "Hello Kitty meets Yoko Ono," says SFist. "Glinda the Good Witch," says Claypool.
