Daily Download: "Melt Your Heart," Jenny Lewis

Jenny Lewis and the Watson Twins' "Rabbit Fur Coat" has been available on file-sharing networks for a while now, and has been much commented on around the Web. I never sought it out only because I'm not that big a fan of Lewis' recent work in Rilo Kiley, but now a free download from the record has been made available, and it's a pleasant surprise. Although Lewis' overthought clumsiness as a writer is still evident in places ("What's good on your soul be bad on your nerves if you reverse it"), her singing is more beautiful than ever, especially in the elegant chorus, made memorable by a delicate rhythmic hesitation that hints at reservoirs of regret and longing.
