Daily Download: "Fractal Zoom," Brian Eno

A free download from the legendary Brian Eno

All Saints Records, the legendary ambient-music label, is back after a few years on hiatus, and it's celebrating with a compilation, titled "Compounds + Elements," featuring highlights from its catalog. Not surprisingly, the album leans heavily on the label's best-known artists, Brian Eno and Harold Budd, who together account for more than half the tracks. The whole album can be streamed here, but only one track is available for download: "Fractal Zoom," the opening song from Eno's "Nerve Net" (not one of his iconic albums), is hardly his best work, but the song is intriguing nonetheless, an odd and trippy attempt at funkiness (not something that came naturally to Eno) with his familiar glacial vistas of sound looming in the background.
