Calling all activist judges

Texas Republicans encourage supporters to send petitions to judges on Tom DeLay's behalf.

Tom DeLay once said that judges "need to be intimidated."

That was almost a decade ago, but it seems that the sentiment hasn't changed much. As the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit prepares to consider DeLay's effort to stay off the ballot in November, DeLay's allies in the Harris County Republican Party are asking supporters to flood the judges with petitions on DeLay's behalf.

The court will hear actual arguments in the case -- you know, ones made by lawyers and, ideally, based on the law -- on July 31.
