Hagel weighs a White House run

The anti-escalation Republican floats the idea of running with, not against, a Democrat.

Nebraska Sen. Chuck Hagel, who has joined Democrats in sponsoring a resolution declaring that an escalation of the war in Iraq is "not in the national interests" of the United States, tells the Washington Post that he's thinking about a run for the White House.

Hagel says he'll make a decision within the next six weeks, and he seems to be thinking -- how seriously, it's hard to tell -- that his options could include running with, rather than against, a Democrat. "I don't know if it ever gets to that point," Hagels says, "but there is a shift going on out there, and there's nothing like a war that does that."
