What a difference a paycheck makes

Ken Mehlman on the joys of bipartisanship.

Published March 1, 2007 5:27PM (EST)

Back when he was the chairman of the Republican National Committee, Ken Mehlman called the Democratic Party the "Defeat-ocrat Party" and the "party of blame America first."

Now that he's signed on as a high-priced business consultant for Akin Gump -- and now that the Democrats have taken control of Congress -- Mehlman says he's all about bipartisanship. "How do we get back to the time when you argued during the day and had a beer after work?" Mehlman asks the Wall Street Journal's John Harwood. "That's something I look forward to -- particularly if someone else is paying."
