Song of the Day: "Everybody's Clown," Len Wade

Another rare soul gem unearthed.

It seems like almost every other week brings the release of a new compilation album spotlighting the underappreciated soul sounds of some specific locale. Given that places ranging from Texas to Toronto have gotten the treatment, it's only mildly surprising to see the release of "Soul Resurrection Volume 1: The Playground Series," a set of tracks recorded at Playground Studios in the apparently underappreciated soul music hotbed of Valparaiso, Fla. While the location particulars might be the kind of minutiae only record collectors care about, Len Wade's 1966 track "Everybody's Clown" is a slow-burning soul ballad that even casual listeners will be glad was resurrected.
