Getting ready for the first Democratic debate

Sure, it all seems too early, but it's exciting nonetheless. Plus: I'm on "Scarborough Country" tonight.

I love baseball, but I especially love spring training, and that incomparable feeling that anything is possible. (How about my 11-8 San Francisco Giants?) I feel the same way about the insanely early start to the 2008 presidential campaign. There's a lot that's wrong about it -- it's going to be hideously expensive, for one thing -- but if you're a political junkie, it feels like spring came early. So I'm looking forward to the Democratic debate Thursday night. I will blog about it later.

I'm also scheduled to be talking about the debates on a late-night "Scarborough Country" on MSNBC, at 4 p.m. PDT/7 p.m. EDT. This is a great advantage for a San Francisco liberal -- I'll be way fresher than Joe, who has been on TV already this afternoon while I've been merely watching. A lot of you have written in asking for advance notice of my television appearances -- so here it is. I'll use this blog that way unless and until it starts to seem like boring self-promotion. I know you'll all let me know!
