A sudden resignation from terror official who bucked White House line.

Just days after he was seen on television saying that Americans probably aren't safer today than they were when the war in Iraq began, the director of the National Counterterrorism Center has announced his resignation.

The explanation? Ret. Vice Adm. John Scott Redd says he needs to have some long-delayed surgery on his knees . . . and he wants to spend more time with his family.
