Not that there's anything wrong with that

Rudy Giuliani and gay marriage.

Published October 22, 2007 8:08PM (EDT)

After Rudy Giuliani said at last night's GOP debate that he'd performed 210 weddings as the mayor of New York, he added: "They were all men and women -- I hope."

Everyone laughed, except for maybe our friends at the Huffington Post. They dug up an August 2001 Frank Rich piece from the New York Times chronicling the mayor's relationship with Howard Koeppel and his partner, Mark Hsiao. "In flight from his own marital wreckage at Gracie Mansion," Rich wrote, Giuliani was a "frequent sleepover guest" in the Koeppel-Hsiao home.

Everyone got along swimmingly, it seemed -- so much so that Koeppel said Giuliani once told him that "if they ever legalized gay marriages, we would be the first one he would do."
