BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) — Argentina's president didn't have cancer after all.

The presidential spokesman says tests on Cristina Fernandez's removed thyroid gland found the initial diagnosis was wrong and the nodules weren't cancerous.

Spokesman Alfredo Scoccimarro says Fernandez doesn't even have to swallow the radioactive iodine that patients usually take after thyroid cancer surgery.

Fernandez is out of the hospital now and recovering at the presidential residence in suburban Buenos Aires.

Without her thyroid gland, the 58-year-old leader faces a lifetime of hormone replacement therapy.
