WEATHERFORD, Texas (AP) — Opening statements are set in the trial of a North Texas man accused of torturing his former neighbor on a deer-skinning device.
Jurors will begin hearing evidence Tuesday at 59-year-old Jeffrey Allan Maxwell's trial. He faces up to life in prison if convicted of aggravated kidnapping and aggravated sexual assault.
He is accused of abducting the woman from her rural Parker County home nearly a year ago. Authorities say he took the woman to his home 100 miles away in Corsicana, where he was a arrested and Maxwell was arrested nearly two weeks later.
A sheriff called it a "house of horrors" because of the alleged torture devices.
Authorities say the woman had rejected his romantic advances years earlier.
His defense attorney has said Maxwell won't use an insanity defense.
