Well, this is awkward: Watch Joe Biden give a shout-out to his "butt buddy"

Vice President Joe Biden was in Iowa Thursday, swinging through the state to tout the Obama administration's education initiatives. Of course, the political press corps are reading Biden's trip through the prism of 2016 presidential politics, speculating that his foray into the state is a sign that he hasn't ruled out a third White House bid.

But enough about that. What's seared in our brains is this video of Biden giving a shout out to "Neal Smith, an old butt buddy" of his in the audience:

New York Magazine's Jessica Roy has performed the public service of explaining that back in the '80s, tight-knight adolescent boys apparently called themselves "butt buddies" all the time. Like big hair, Whitesnake, and Reaganomics, however, some things that happened in the '80s should stay in the '80s.
