Despite being appointed managing editor of Newsweek’s Foreign Affairs section at the ripe age of 28 and despite getting showered with every accolade imaginable shortly thereafter -- Top 100 Global Thinkers, New York Times Bestselling Author etc. etc. -- there is one thing that makes Fareed Zakaria kind of relatable. Joining Conan Tuesday night, liberal education's biggest champion confirmed that he once partied so hard the night before his Yale graduation that he actually slept through the entire thing. Well past 12, he remembers. “I was very sad to be leaving college,” he told Conan. “I had a really fantastic time. I made these great friends and we stayed up late reminiscing -- and honestly I slept right through it.” In a funny twist of fate, Zakaria has been the designated commencement speaker at several colleges since.
Fareed Zakaria admits he drunkenly slept through entire college graduation: "Do what I say, don't do what I do!"
Liberal education's biggest champion wasn't able to snap out of his drunken stupor in time
