On Morning Joe Friday, presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump assured co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski that he not only knew what brought down EgyptAir Flight 804, he also knew how to prevent further such disasters in the future.
Brzezinski had asked Trump about how international allies and enemies would respond to his tweets about them, and suggested he's using the fear of terrorism to influence people to vote for him. Trump agreed, saying that "I [tweeted] another plane was blown up and I can practically guarantee who blew it up."
Brzezinski replied that comments like that were exactly the problem she was pointing to. "Donald, listen to yourself right now," she said, but he clearly wasn't interested in doing so -- at least not in the self-reflective manner she was suggesting.
"Let me tell you," he said, "the mindset of a weak Hillary Clinton, which is four more years of Obama, is not going to do it for our country, Mika."
She tried, again, to get him to answer her question. "I'm asking you if there is any, perhaps, backing here to the concern that a lot of what you say is focused on hatred and fear and generating more anger and churning it up? Perhaps that [EgyptAir] tweet, you might have thought of the families and their suffering first?"
"No, I'll tell you what," Trump replied. "Let me tell you what I'm thinking of -- I'm thinking of the future. We can't continue to let things like this happen. We are being taken advantage of by radical Islamic terrorists -- this world is changing. Another couple planes go down, Mika, and you're going to have a depression world-wide, the likes of which you have never seen."
