This week on SalonTV: Nick Cannon, Junot Díaz, Rebecca Miller and more

Artists explore family roots and identity in new books, documentaries and music

Published March 12, 2018 1:00PM (EDT)

SalonTV’s guests this week are multi-faceted leaders in the entertainment industry whose latest projects all have at least one thing in common — they're deeply personal.

Pulitzer Prize-winning and New York Times best-selling novelist Junot Díaz brings his new work to Salon. Geared towards a much younger audience, it's still packed with timeless lessons for all. His new children’s book “Islandborn” celebrates cultural diversity in America through the story of a young girl, Lola, who is discovering her identity and family history.

Filmmaker Rebecca Miller turns inward for her documentary on one of the greatest playwrights of all time, Arthur Miller, who is best known to her as simply, dad. The film, which features previously unseen pictures and video, “Arthur Miller: Writer,” debuts March 19 on HBO.

Nick Cannon, the entertainer and entrepreneur who viewers will remember from his myriad of jobs in the spotlight over the past two decades, including actor, comedian, host, producer and musician, is highlighting women’s empowerment in his upcoming full-length album “Model Music.”

HBO “Silicon Valley” star Jimmy O. Yang, who stars opposite Melissa McCarthy in the upcoming summer comedy “Life of the Party,” keeps humor at the forefront of his hilarious memoir, “How to American: An Immigrant's Guide to Disappointing Your Parents." Plus, don’t miss Salon’s early St. Patrick’s Day celebration. We’re welcoming top-selling global supergroup Celtic Thunder to “Salon Stage,” who Billboard has named “Top World Music Artist.”
