On Friday night’s episode of "Real Time with Bill Maher," the titular talk show host zeroed in on Donald Trump's new best friend: Rudy Giuliani.
“Trump has two new best friends: Rudy Giuliani and Kanye West,” Maher said. “It’s like he joined a new dating site 'OK Stupid.’”
Maher went on to give the audience background on Trump’s latest clique member.
“So Rudy Giuliani as you know replaced Michael Cohen, that was his lawyer, so Rudy is in for Michael Cohen, he’s traded a lawyer who carried a bat for a lawyer who turns into one,” Maher explained. “Rudy had a pretty rough beginning, I mean it seems like weeks ago, but it was only yesterday, the lies turnover so quickly, Rudy was all over Fox News and admitted that Trump fired Comey because of the Russian investigation, admitted that Trump reimbursed Cohen for the Stormy Daniels payoff, admitted that Trump knew about the hush money to Stormy Daniels.”
“I think the person that needs money to hush is Rudy,” he continued to joke.
Maher was referring to Giuliani’s bizarre appearance on Fox News on Wednesday when he worsened Trump’s legal predicament.
"I was talking about the $130,000 payment, the settlement payment, which is a very regular thing for lawyers to do," Giuliani told Fox News host Sean Hannity, regarding the hush money paid to Stormy Daniels (real name: Stephanie Clifford) for her alleged affair with Trump. "The question there was, the only possible violation there would be, was it a campaign finance violation? Which usually would result in a fine, by the way, not this big Stormtroopers coming in and breaking down his apartment and breaking down his office."
He added, "That was money that was paid by his lawyer, the way I would do, out of his law firm forms or whatever funds, doesn't matter. The president reimbursed that over a period of several months."
Giuliani’s comments sent fissures through Washington and the media.
Maher continued on Friday night to make jabs at the debacle.
“According to Rudy, here’s what we are supposed to believe, that Trump has a default arrangement with his lawyer that if any porn star anywhere in America that I banged at a gold club says she did, you don’t have to check with me just pay her,” Maher said. “So Trump sees this on TV of course, it’s what he does all day, watching Rudy say this on Fox and tweets ‘Uh, you know that hush money that I don’t know anything about, yeah that came from my personal, completely normal, automated, porn star, pay-off slush fund, just like we all have, I don’t know what the fuss is all about.”
“These guys, it’s like improv comedy, but it’s not funny," he added.
