Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) is fully prepared to jail President Donald Trump’s son Don Jr.

In a series of remarks to reporters Thursday, Blumenthal noted that the younger Trump lied to the Senate Judiciary Committee in 2017 when asked about the Trump Tower meeting.

“I’ve said repeatedly that his answers to the questions and I watched him, were smart-alecky, untruthful, and misleading,” Fox News reporters cited him saying. “So I want to hear about what the truth is.”

Sources told CNN that Trump Jr. has considered declaring his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination or avoid appearing before the committee at all.

Blumenthal said that he’s prepared to jail the president’s son if he refuses to cooperate with the subpoena.

“If he fails to comply with a lawful subpoena, he has no privilege, prison is the only answer,” Blumenthal said.

Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) claimed his Republican committee chair, Sen. Richard Burr (R-NC) is playing politics by asking Trump Jr. to appear again.

Trump Jr. testified in 2017 that his father was only peripherally aware” of the Trump Tower Moscow plans. He also told the Senate that he didn’t give participants any information beyond asking if they could attend the meeting.

When asked if Trump Jr. told his father about the meeting, he told senators, “I did not.”

The Mueller report shows evidence to the contrary: “Michael Cohen recalled being in Donald J. Trump’s office on June 6 or 7 when Trump Jr. told his father that a meeting to obtain adverse information about Clinton was going forward.”
