A week of Song Search submissions: Day 1

One of our Song Search favorites!

The first phase of Song Search is over! After listening to hundreds upon hundreds of songs ranging from the good to the bad and everything in between -- done in styles as disparate as R&B slow jams, solo acoustic guitar ballads, and things we arent quite sure what to call them -- the Song Search team has winnowed down the entries to a select group of tracks from which our blogger panelists will choose the 10 songs you'll be voting on. We'll announce the first two songs on Monday, but before that happens we thought it'd be fun to give you a preview of what's to come as well as share some of the quirkier songs that found their way into our in box. As you'll hear, for better or worse, they're all worth a listen.

Were kicking things off with "Welcome to Confusion" by the erstwhile Boston band the Stairs. From its simple finger-picked opening, the song builds layer by layer, adding strings, electric guitars, vocal harmonies and some joyously rickety percussion as it hurtles toward its rousing conclusion.
