Women unite with #TimesUp
It wasn’t just Hollywood stars on the red carpet at this year’s Golden Globes who shined a light on #MeToo and #TimesUp. Ai-Jen Poo, the executive director of the National Domestic Workers Alliance, joined Meryl Streep as her guest to bring attention to the challenges facing the roughly 2.5 million domestic workers in the United States. In an interview with Salon’s Alyona Minkovski for “Salon Now,” Ai-jen Poo discussed how workers in this industry are invisible due to their employment primarily in private homes, and the many loopholes that leave them falling through the cracks when it comes to anti-harassment and anti-discrimination legislation. Ninety percent of domestic workers are women, and it’s also the industry with the largest number of undocumented people. Watch the video above to find out what you can do to stand up for the rights of the men and women working as nannies, cleaning homes and taking care of the elderly.
