Tina Brown spotlights AOC as proof: Power is not a masculine trait

It’s no surprise to Tina Brown that women in leadership positions are held to a different standard than men, she’s experienced it herself during her tenure as the editor of Vanity Fair and The New Yorker. On “Salon Talks,” Brown gets honest with SalonTV’s Mary Elizabeth Williams about how women in politics are treated, from their lipstick shade to why bringing “glamour” to the job isn’t a compliment.

“Nikki Haley was actually a very successful U.N. Ambassador,” Brown noted. “When I read [the headline] ‘she brought glamour to the job,’ I felt that rage all over again. Here's a woman who has done her job with great appropriateness and judiciousness and success.” Brown is referring to how President Trump reacted when Haley resigned, saying she made the job more “glamorous.”

But, Brown points out, millennial women are using their “social media ubiquity” to shed many of the stereotypes of femininity that they're forced to live inside. She added,“I think it's actually a good path to blaze.”
