MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski torched Senate Republicans as “incapable” of treating women with respect, after Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell insulted the woman chosen to question Brett Kavanaugh’s sex assault accuser.
Arizona prosecutor Rachel Mitchell will question Christine Blasey Ford, who has accused Kavanaugh of trying to rape her in high school, after confirmation hearings re-open Thursday, and GOP senators have scheduled a vote for the following morning.
“This is a very serious allegation, I don’t know why they have to smear her,” Brzezinski said. “I don’t know why they have to force a vote on Friday and make it completely look like they don’t care what is going to happen on Thursday.”
Brzezinski ripped the Kentucky Republican for describing Mitchell as a “female assistant” when announcing her role in the Ford hearing.
“Who calls a female sex crimes prosecutor an assistant at this point, really?” she said. “I get why you can’t talk for yourself, Republicans on the Judiciary Committee. You can’t, because you’re literally incapable of being respectful or treating women with any sense that they might have qualifications to be as high ranking as you. Here’s Mitch McConnell — an assistant, really.”
“What’s wrong with them?” she added. “I think there could be a really good reason, politically, to have a woman ask the questions. It could be a great way of saying that, and he just — I don’t know. What happened there? He can’t look at a woman in any other way but a supportive role that is lower.”
