MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough took a hammer to President Donald Trump’s increasingly implausible “lies” about his relationship with Russia.
The “Morning Joe” host reacted to the president’s latest denials of collusion with an epic litany of the evidence against Trump and his campaign — whose manager has been convicted of tax fraud and pleaded guilty to conspiracy against the United States.
“Lies, just lies, just showering down on the president there, ‘No collusion, no Russia,'” Scarborough said. “There was collusion, there was an attempt at collusion — it’s clearly out there.”
“We already have the evidence, Mr. President,” he added. “I don’t know if you know it, but in this case you’re the emperor without any clothes. We already have evidence that there was collusion. Was it illegal? We don’t know. Certainly an attempt at collusion by you and your sons and everybody around you.”
Two years of reporting has backed assessments by U.S. intelligence and law enforcement that Russia interfered in the 2016 election to aid Trump, and special counsel Robert Mueller has secured guilty pleas and indictments for top campaign officials related to those efforts.
“There was a lot of Russia,” Scarborough said. “‘No Russia?’ What your even talking about? What planet do you think we’re from? Why do you keep insulting your supporters and followers by saying ‘no Russia.’ Do you really think they are stupid?”
Scarborough said the evidence of collusion was overwhelming — and all that’s left to prove was how much of that activity violated the law.
“We found out that actually there was collusion, there was Russia, there was an attempt,” he said. “Now listen, we don’t know if it’s against the law, we certainly don’t know if Russia had an impact on the 2016 election. I don’t think they did. I think James Comey did more than Vladimir Putin.”
“But we do know this,” Scarborough added. “You’re lying on the tarmac and when it comes to Russia, you’ve been lying for years. I just can’t wait to find out, one of these days, what Vladimir Putin has on you.”
